The Cowgirls: Their Songs and Stories
The school program, entitled “Cowgirls: Their Songs and Stories”, applies The Local Girls’ musical energy to teaching students about the contributions women made to settling the West. Each song of the show addresses not only the cultural diversity of the real West, but evokes the issues and the spirit of the women who pursued a new life in a new world. The Local Girls guide the students through a history lesson taught in Western song, complete with yippees and yodels. It’s lonely, it’s lively, it’s free, it’s fenced in, it’s sweet, it’s swinging... it’s the West, so although they do it in three part harmony, there’s plenty of wide open spaces for singing along!

The Christmas Show
For their Christmas shows, The Local Girls encourage the whole community to come and to bring their children. They begin their program by singing Christmas songs less familiar to the audience, but very much within the musical style of their regularly performed material. They also incorporate a few upbeat, secular, non-seasonal tunes for variety. They perform a slightly shorter set to allow for a grand finale, wherein they welcome all interested children to the stage to join them in leading everyone in song. It’s always a lovely, lively time, full of surprises and good cheer, as the children welcome a chance to perform, behind a microphone, for their friends and families.
The Cowgirl Christmas Show
An amalgamation of The Local Girls’ regular Christmas show and their Cowgirls show. It is an educational show for families about women in the West and includes Christmas carols, tales of celebrations of Christmas in the old West, and, of course, a sing-along. During this show, The Local Girls all play on traditional instruments: guitar, washboard, limberjack, banjo, etc.
The Valentine’s Day Show
The Local Girls focus on the obvious--lots of love songs! They also include brief poems and list songs from the Library of Congress that begin with the words-- “love is...”. Although it makes for a romantic evening, they cover all the aspects of love--the good, the bad and the ugly! Their show and a bottle of champagne go a long way to contribute to Cupid’s special night.
